DOMINIK JACEK MODLINSKI, AOCA, CSPWC
Born in Warsaw, Poland in 1970, he attended The School For Artistic
Crafts & Design in Warsaw until he immigrated to Canada in 1987
at the age of 16. Dominik graduated with honors from The Ontario College
of Art in 1993. A landscape- painting course offered through the college
introduced Dominik to the Algoma Highland region of Ontario. In the
summer of 1993, he decided to move to Algoma to live and paint at
the Algoma School of Landscape Arts, located in the same area that
had inspired some of the Group of Seven's most memorable works. Living
a settler's life off the tracks of the Algoma Central Railway also
gave him the opportunity to develop his own approach to painting and
gain a greater understanding of the Canadian Experience.
He has since traveled throughout British Columbia from the Rocky
Mountains to the isolated rainforest valley of Northwestern British
Columbia up through the Glaciers and to the Yukon and North West
Territories. From these journeys he brings back drawings, watercolours,
oil sketches, and photos rich with ideas and the information he
needs to develop his finished oil paintings on canvas during the
long winter months. Dominik is also an instructor and a member of
the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour (CSPWC)
