Burton was one of many regional artists who began to appear across the country in the mid-twentieth century.  With a style similar to his friend and painting companion A.Y. Jackson, his works portray the colours and humble nature of Ontario's Ottawa valley

Manly MacDonald never painted a landscape in his studio - he always painted them outdoors. He was a founding member of the Ontario Institute of Painters in 1958 and taught at the Ontario College of Art. This renowned artist was exhibited internationally and has works in the National Gallery of Canada, Art Gallery of Ontario and in the Royal collection of Queen Elizabeth II. Julius Griffith was influenced by modern French artists, Canadian artist David Milne, and American Milton Avery whom he considered his mentor. He is represented in the collections of the National Gallery of Canada; Art Gallery of Ontario; Toronto City Archives; Art Gallery of Hamilton; Art Gallery of Greater Victoria; British War Artists Collection and Canadian War Museum to name a few.

As an associate of the Group of Seven, Gauthier painted with Franklin Carmichael and A.J. Casson. His talent and good colour sense were of great value at Sampson Matthews Ltd. where he, Casson and others produced the fine hand-made silkscreens of the 1940's and '50's. He was commissioned by the McMichael Art Collection at Kleinburg to do portraits of Tom Thomson, The Group of Seven and their contemporaries.

A dedicated, hard working man, Fred S. Haines was known as an accomplished artist and an individual devoted to public service. He was President of the Ontario Society of Artists; President of the Royal Canadian Academy; Director of the Art Gallery of Ontario; and Principal of the Ontario College of Art. He has left a legacy of paintings and etchings that preserve the pastoral landscapes from the first half of the 20th century
