VIC
ATKINSON
Born in London, England in 1930. In 1944 he won a scholarship to
study at the Camberwell School of Fine Art in London. After graduating
in 1946 he began a career in the film industry and studied stage
design. Vic immigrated to Canada in 1953 where he began making his
own live action films which won many North American awards. The
discipline of fine detail required by the film industry is reflected
in Vic's work today. He works in the style of high realism, but
takes his subjects one step further and imbues them with a nostalgic,
magical quality which is beyond the sphere of reality. |

GEORGE
BOYER, O.S.A.
Studied architecture at Ryerson Polytechnical Institution and Ontario
College of Art. He was commissioned by the VIA Rail Canada Inc.
in 1991 to paint a diptych for LR.C coach car. George paints the
landscape throughout Ontario.
Awards: 2nd prize for a Landscape painting at the National
Fine Art Competition in 1992.

ROSEMARIE CONDON
RoseMarie Condon has been a professional artist since 1960. The
Canadian wilderness, rural landscapes, and heritage buildings are
a major inspiration for her paintings. . She has created numerous
award winning designs and illustrations and much of her commercial
work is currently focused on the creation of children's pastimes,
games and books. In 2003 Condon was commissioned to create five
animated Christmas windows for the Hudson's Bay Company flagship
store. RoseMarie is an active member of the Arts & Letters Club
and Visual Arts Ontario. |

CATHIE
COOPER
Cathie Cooper grew up on a 50 acre family farm near Metcalfe, Ontario.
From an early age, she exhibited a natural talent and love for painting.
The oldest of four children, Cathie drew inspiration from her family
and surroundings. Frequent camping trips along the Madawaska River,
and summer vacations to the east and west coasts of Canada all contributed
to a love for the Canadian Landscape. Primarily a self-taught painter,
Cathie Cooper's paintings strive to bring a heightened awareness
and appreciation of the fragility and beauty of the natural world.

RUDY
COOPER
Born in Edwards Ontario, South of Ottawa, Ontario, September 23,
1935. Graduated from the Ontario College of Art in 1958, specialized
in advertising and illustration. Worked for The Canadian Broadcasting
Corporation (CBC) as a graphic designer for seven years. He then
continued working 22 years as set designer for the CBC, until he
retired in 1986. A hobby fine art painter most of his life he is
now painting full time. |

RON
COWLE
A fine arts graduate of Fanshawe College in London, Ontario, Ron
has traveled and painted throughout the Canadian Arctic, South Pacific
and Western Europe. He is currently living, painting and sculpting
in Lanark County, Ontario. |

MEL
DELIJA, A.O.C.A.
Studied at Central Technical School and the Ontario College of Art.
An impressionistic painter, Delija's primary focus is the rugged
Canadian landscape. He has traveled often to Algonquin park in hopes
of inventing his own language of expression. Painting still life
and figure are some other subjects of interest. Mel Delija will
be having his second one man show at John A. Libby Fine Art in the
fall of 2004. |

BETTY
GALBRAITH-CORNELL, S.C.A.
Studied at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. She became a member
of the Society of Canadian Artists in 1975 and her first show at
Libby's gallery was in 1986. Betty travels extensively throughout
Canada including the Arctic, East Coast, Gaspe and the Laurentians.

DAVID
DAWSON, A.O.C.A.D.
Born in Gravenhurst, Ontario, David Dawson has been a freelance
architectural renderer working in gouchae and watercolour since
1975. His works have received international acclaim including a
commission to complete nine depictions of the Skydome. . His background
in architecture and design are evident in his paintings and his
love of Muskoka provides the perfect imagery for expressing light,
colour and texture. |

ELSA
FREDERICKS
Studied with Molly Lamb Bobak, Fred Ross and Tony Onley at the University
of New Brunswick; with Christopher Pratt at Mount Allison University;
with James Pinto of the Instituto Allende Mexico; at Finch College
of New York; in San Marino; and Florence, Italy. She taught with
the Peel Board of Education, Mississauga, Ontario. Elsa has been
showing at the Libby's gallery since 1989.

PAUL
GAUTHIER
Studied Architectural Technology at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute.
He painted with his father Joachim Gauthier, A.J. Casson, Alan Collier
and Anthony Law. In 1987 he was commissioned by the North Channel
Preservation Society to produce a limited edition serigraph of one
of A.J. Casson's paintings of Baie Fine, assisted by Casson. Also
that year he received a grant from the Royal Canadian Geographical
Society along with logistical support from the Polar Continental
Project to travel and photograph the high Arctic Islands for reference
material. In 1989 he was a technical advisor for the film "And There
Were Seven" (the life of A.J. Casson and the Group of Seven). In
1994 Gauthier went on the Canadian Coast Guard voyage in Arctic
waters (Labrador, Frobisher Bay, Greenland, Lancaster Sound and
Strathcona Sound) on the C.C.G.S. Henry Larsen class 4 ice breaker.
Was Travel Dynamics New York's Artist in residence to Greenland.
Paul continues to paint the Canadian landscape.
Awards: Town of Markham Achievement and Civic Recognition
Award for Art & Cultural contribution to the community in 1991.

H. HAZEL
Studied Interior Architectural Design at the Ontario College of
Art. Was Vice President of Design for Marriott Corporation. He paints
in watercolour and teaches at his studio. James is a member of the
Central Ontario Art Association, The Rappahannock Art League and
the Virginia Watercolour Society. |

MARIA
S. HAZEL
Graduate of the Ontario College of Art and Design. She has traveled
extensively in the United States and Canada,spending much of her
time in Algoma. Maria works in various mediums including watercolour,
oil, fibre and is an accomplished weaver. |

JANE HUNTER
Attended the Ontario College of Art and lives in Toronto. In 1980
she was elected a member of The Ontario Society of Artists and in
1995 became a member of The Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour.
She received awards of excellence from the C.S.P.W.C. in 1995, 1999
and 2002. One of her paintings was by chosen by the C.S.P.W.C. in
2000, the year of their 75th anniversary, to be included in a presentation
of works to the Royal Collection at Windsor Castle. In May 2003
one of her paintings was chosen for the primary image on posters
and publicity for the historical exhibition, "Toronto, Place
of Meeting" at the TD Gallery at the Toronto Reference Library. |

JEFF
MILLER
Fifty years of professional canoe guiding in Ontario's wilderness
and the dedication to protecting our ecosystem has given Miller
a great advantage in painting his oils and watercolours. He travels
the country but spends much of his time at Lake Superior, Georgian
Bay and Algonquin Park. Jeff offers workshops to both adults and
children where he introduces his "Look See Paint" video and paint
kit. His "Look See Paint" kit is available for sale at Libby's gallery.

DOMINIK MODLINSKI
Studied at the School for Artistic Crafts & Design, Warsaw, Poland
and holds an honors degree from the Ontario College of Art, Drawing
& Painting. He paints Algoma, Ontario and teaches at Atlin Art
Centre, Atlan, British Columbia where he also paints the rugged
landscape.

RITA-ANNE PIQUET
Studied at University of Toronto and Ballynakill Studios in Ireland.
Rita-Anne's work has been included in several publications including
the cover of The New Anthology of Canadian Literature, "L'Art
au Femin/The Feminine Viewpoint: Works by Contemporary Women Artists
and Amnesty International (Canadian Section) Christmas Cards. Her
paintings speak of a private refuge which affords calm and shelter.
They are silent spaces, inviting meditation. She is currently participating
in the artist-in-residence programme at the Masterworks Foundation
in Bermuda where she will be creating a body of work depicting Bermuda
from the perspective of a Canadian artist. |

ALICE
REED, C.S.P.W.C.
Studied at Mount Allison University in New Brunswick. She teaches
watercolour painting at Mount Allison University, the University
of Prince Edward Island, Memorial University of Newfoundland and
Mount Saint Vincent University in Nova Scotia. Alice is a member
and the Atlantic Director of the Canadian Society of Painters in
Water Colour. She works exclusively in watercolours and has shown
at Libby's gallery since 1984.

CLAIRE
SHONIKER, O.S.A., CSPWC
Studied at the Ontario College of Art and and was taught by Arthur
Lismer prior to teaching school. She was active in the Ontario Society
of Artists, Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour and the
Canadian Society of Painters, Etchers and Engravers. She is influenced
by the Group of Seven and her admiration of Paul Cezanne when she
paints her still life subjects. Her first solo show at Libby's gallery
was May 2001. |

GARY SMITH
Gary Smith is a long standing Toronto artist, a member of the Portrait Society of America and a director of Artists’ NETWORK of Riverdale. His energetic and expressive style captures the essence of the subject he paints: a local eatery, a commissioned portrait or a large scale mural. He has been in many solo and group exhibitions, teaches at the Main Square Community Centre, as well as CLUB DRAW where he holds life-drawing classes every Sunday. |

CHRISTAIN THIBAULT
Born in Montreal, Christain Thibault began his studies early on
with Arthur Lismer at lEcole du Musee des Beaux-Arts de
Montreal, where he gained an appreciation for the vast Landscapes
of Canada. He was awarded his diploma in Visual Arts from Jean
de Brebeuf College. Since that time he has exhibited in Montreal,
Vancouver, Salt Lake City, St. Hilaire and Toronto. |

WENDY
WEST
Wendy is a traditional landscape artist painting in oils, also specializing
in portraiture and Limited Edition bronze sculpture. Wendy's equine
paintings have been featured on the cover of Trot Magazine and the
Harness Tracks of American Art Show and Auction in Kentucky. She
has been represented by Libby's gallery for many years. |
